Wigan St Patricks won a cliff hanger over a gallant Siddal in the 20th minute of golden point extra time when standoff Logan Astle’s drop goal at the fifth attempt went through the posts. The sides had been locked at 16 all at fulltime and extra time, a fantastic game neither side deserved to lose which will be remembered for many years for those watched it....
St Pats got off to a great start opening the scoring on four minutes when centre Jack Taylor scored try following scrum after early pressure. They doubled their lead on 13 minutes when great handling down the line saw winger Lewis Connolly to score in corner for an 8-0 lead.
Four minutes later Siddal halved the lead when hooker Kai McDonald drove over and on the stroke of half time took the as Nathan Rushworth drove through gap went 20 metres to score by posts, with Joseph McDonnall adding the extra.
Four minutes later forward Ajahni Wallace stretched over for a converted try to give Siddal an eight point lead
St Pat’s stormed back with two tries in four minutes to take the game into extra time. Taylor scored his second from Astle’s grubber and Connolly scored in corner to make it 16 all.
In extra time St Pat’s Logan Astle’s drop goal attempt hit the posts and Siddal’s Matthew Nicholson was stopped on line last seconds of extra time.
In golden point extra time St Pat’s Joe Charnock missed penalty and for St Pat’s and Siddal’s Connors drop goal went wide. Astle then broke the Halifax side’s hearts with a fifth time lucky drop goal winner.
