MAURICE CLARKE RIP

BARLA have just been made aware of the passing of Cumberland and Cumbria stalwart and former BARLA Board Member Maurice Clarke who passed away on the morning of Wednesday 15th July aged 86 yrs old. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this sad time.

BARLA Chair Sue Taylor,

“On behalf of BARLA I would like to pass on our condolences to Maurice’s family and friends and those who knew him from his involvement in amateur rugby league in Cumbria. Our thoughts are with them all and he will be sadly missed.”

From the early 1960’s prior to the formation of BARLA in 1973 and until 1995 Maurice was the Chairman and Trustee of Glasson Rangers ARLFC and from the season of 1973/74 season to 1998/1999 season was the Chairman of CARL. On his retirement from that position at the age of 65yrs a dinner was in his honour at the Waverley Hotel Workington, which he attended together with his wife.

A great supporter for the amateur game in Cumberland and Cumbria Maurice held many positions within the game within BARLA and CARL. As well as being a former BARLA Board Member he was made a BARLA Life Member and was also an International Selector for the BARLA Great Britain representative sides. Within CARL Maurice was a President, Life Member as well as the Chairman of the Cumbria County Team.

During his later years, Maurice and his late wife, who died 6 years ago, enjoyed bowling. At this moment in time there are no details regarding his funeral.
