BARTLETT’S BARLA UNDER 16’S YORKSHIRE CUP FINAL

HUNSLET WARRIORS 16

CASTLEFORD LOCK LANE 6

LD Nutrition Stadium

Featherstone Rovers RLFC

Hunslet Hawks victory over Castleford Lock Lane made it a ‘Leeds’ double in the two youth and junior finals in an action packed game with the Hawks having that extra cutting edge both in attack and defence against a gallant Lane side.

Having said that the Hawks allowed the ball to go dead from the kick off forcing them to drop out but their line held firm and they took the lead on seven minutes from a last tackle bomb which their opponents couldn’t take and standoff Joseph Maloney scored.  Harry Shackelton added the extras but missed a penalty a few minutes later.

Lane pressed on a number of occasions but was stopped in their tracks by their opponents but the game was in the balance going into the second half

Hawks went further ahead at the beginning of the half as they turned the screw and centre Andrew Stewart went over in the corner giving his side a ten point buffer. Lane tried to get back into the game but it was over with ten minutes remaining when centre Robert Davidson went down the right side to score and Shackleton added his second goal.

Lane had the last word as their efforts and attacking skills deserved as skipper Taylor Cartwright drove at the Hawks line and stretched over to score and Billy Marsh.
