In a repeat of the final two years ago once again the spoils of victory went to a classy Siddal side against a brave and courageous sixteen Blackbrook Royals, which this time was played thirteen aside with no dismissals
The game was won in the first half as Siddal went in for three tries, before adding a further two in the second half before the Royals had the last word with a well deserved and constructed try.
Siddal playing down the slope began the stronger taking the game to the opposition, controlling it in the forwards leaving the Royals to do a lot of defending on their own line. They scored the opener on 12 minutes as they attacked the left channel and fullback Jack Lumb joined the line to score in the corner.
Minutes later they were in again via the left channel when a cut pass found winger Joseph McDonnel who went over at the corner before going nearer the posts for Lumb’s only conversion. As Royals were feeding on little ball or territory in the Siddal half, Siddal struck again on 22 minutes when centre Lewis Jones struck 16-0 after 22 minutes and McDonnel kicking the first of his brace.
The next score was going to be crucial and so it turned out as Siddal made it 22-0 after 35 minutes when centre Robson McGowan went over from 5metres down the left. Royals battled on but Siddal were too quick with the ball in hand and in defence. It was definitely game over on 50 minutes when second row forward Ajahni Wallace drove over in the right corner with William Pryce adding the extras.
With four minutes remaining the Royals got the try their effort deserved over the hour proceedings of the game when winger Dylan Ross struck over for them and standoff Alex Sutton converted his only kick of the game.
