| BARLA Open Age Captain John McMullen gives thoughts on this weekends MX 9's |

The BARLA Open Age side won the MX 9’s last year playing some wonderful running rugby league and this coming Sunday 26th August they return to London Skolars RLFC to defend their title. The squad travel down to London tomorrow and Wigan St Judes John McMullen will once again skipper the squad as he did last year and is looking forward to competition.
Although favourites he thinks the tag will be a driving force for the squad.
“I’m looking forward to the competition and we are going down to London tomorrow. We will probably have a training session tomorrow and another before we got to the new Wembley to watch the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final between St Helens and the Catalans Dragons.
“We have got quite a few talented lads in the squad and some of the younger lads from the U/23’s so hopefully we can retain the title again. It’s what the game is all about developing the youngsters and bringing them through into the BARLA Open Age side.
“Serbia and the Great Britain Students are in our qualifying group and you don’t know what sort of squad they are going to turn out. They could be bringing along their professionals who have been playing in the summer league competitions. It’s just about weighing up the opposition when you get there, looking at which players are around.
“But the lads will focus and concentrate on our own rugby and not worry too much about who we are playing against. We have been made favourites to win the MX 9’s again and I think it is a driving force for the lads.
“People expect quality when they come up against BARLA and that is exactly what they will get. The lads will give everything they have got and play to the best of their ability. At the end of the day we are only amateurs but we play the sport because we love it.”
