BARLA Great Britain Young Lions 4 v 28 Australian Schoolboys
Wednesday 4th December 2002
South Leeds Stadium, Leeds
Kick Off: 7:30pm
The BARLA Great Britain Young Lions produced a brave display in the third
and final Test match against the World Youth Champions.
On a cold night at the South Leeds Stadium, the Young Lions applied the early
pressure and deservedly took an early lead through Shaw Cross centre Richard
Squires. Further pressure failed to bring anymore points and it was no surprise
when the Schoolboys hit back.
The tourists first score of the night came from a superb 80 yard solo effort
from full back Ryan Carmichael, with Brad Wallace’s goal edging them ahead at
6-4.
The scores remained unchanged after the break, until centre Russ Aitken capitalised
on a Young Lions handling error to cut through from a scrum.
As with the previous two Tests, the Schoolboys superior size and fitness levels
came to the fore in the closing stages.
Substitute Ryan Hoffman added their third try, and prop Keith Galloway and
winger Dimitri Pelo scored further tries to seal the win, with scrum half Ben
Green adding three goals.
