As the WARLA ‘Winter League’ begins tomorrow Sunday 21st October with nine sides WARLA Registrations Secretary Sue Tindall has contacted all competing clubs to hold a minutes silence prior to their games as a mark of respect to Phil OJ Johnson of York Ladies who passed away in August this year.

Sue sent out the following message,

“Dear All as a mark of respect on Sunday when the WARLA season begins can you start the season with a minute’s silence. This is for Phil (OJ) Johnson from York Ladies who died recently.

“OJ was a fantastic character and an attribute to ladies rugby league taking York Ladies to their plate final win last year Please honour this request to show your respect as we all miss him thanks".

“I echo Sue’s request, at our AGM this year Phil volunteered to return to the WARLA Management Committee as an Executive Officer and his input would have been valuable for everyone involved in the women’s game. Sadly he passed away two months ago and it will be a fitting tribute to Phil and his family.”
