BARLA have renewed their link with amateur rugby league supporter, the ex Dewsbury RLFC chairman Bob McDermott, in a continuation of his company’s sponsorship agreement of the BARLA Yorkshire County Cup. This year’s competition will again be titled, “The Hamuel Reichenbacher BARLA Yorkshire County Cup.”
An agreed four figure sum has been secured for the competition, which kicks off with the first round on Saturday 29th September and again part of the deal will include a playing kit for the winning team. The company has also given assurances that deal will be reviewed for future seasons.
Reichenbacher Hamuel offer a wide range of CNC machining centres, for the timber, aluminium, plastics and composites industries. Established over 60 years ago, Reichenbacher offer highly developed machining solutions. The main UK office is located in Dewsbury.
Managing Director of Hamuel Reichenbacher Bob McDermott, who conducted the draws for rounds one and two, at his company’s Dewsbury offices was pleased to announce, “We are highly delighted to be continuing our association with BARLA and the Yorkshire Cup Competition. I have been very pleased with the feedback that we received from last year’s competition which proved a massive success. The final which attracted over 2500 spectators at Wakefield Trinity’s Belle Vue Stadium, proved to be one of the highlights in the amateur calendar.”
Mr. McDermott finished by saying, “I’ve been a grassroots rugby league supporter for many years and it’s very rewarding to offer support at the very heart of the game.”
BARLA Vice Chairman Malcolm Sellers who assisted with the draw welcomed the news saying, “Its terrific news that Hamuel Reichenbacher are continuing with their support for what is one of BARLA’s blue ribbon events. The sponsorship last year helped raised the profile of the competition last year and the winners [Hunslet Old Boys] benefited with the prize of a playing kit.” He added, “In these inclement financial times, I would like to thank Bob McDermott and Hamuel Reichenbacher sincerely, for their continued support and generosity directed towards the amateur game.”
The competition has attracted a healthy number of entries from the east of the county which includes; Hull Dockers, Myton Warriors, Skirlaugh and West Hull, whose first teams all ply their trade in the summer based NCL. Of these both West Hull and Myton Warriors were drawn away in round one to Westgate Wolves (Wakefield) and King Cross Park (Halifax) Skirlaugh have the benefit of a home draw to local side Reckitts from Hull ARL, while Dockers will be tested when they entertain Queens.
The holders Hunslet Old Boys have a tricky first round draw with an away day at Bradford club Queensbury, with a trip to Keighley ARLFC facing the winners in round two. Last year’s finalists enter the competition in round two when they visit Embassy Eagles (Hull)
