| BARLA GREAT BRITAIN COUGARS NAME SQUAD FOR 1ST TEST |
|
 |
The BARLA Great Britain Cougars squad to face Jamaica has been announced to the players by Coaches Mick Fishwick and Daryl Cardiss for the 1st Test at the National Stadium East, Kingston. Captaining the side will be Cumbria and Egremont Rangers stand off John Paul Brocklebank.
The Test Match is the opening fixture of the BARLA Jubilee Tour on Saturday 9th June, kick off 4.00pm, (10.00pm GMT).
BARLA Great Britain Cougars Coach Daryl Cardiss said,
“Training has been good and the boys have been running and swimming to get rid of jet lag etc and we’ve found this heat hard at times but hopefully our fitness will see us through.
"This is my first tour as a BARLA coach and I’m surprised how well the boys have gelled and hopefully we can carry that onto this game.
“I’m really looking forward to see John Paul Brocklebank play as although I’ve seen him in training I have heard a lot of good reports on him and would like to see him on the park. Also we have got two or three lads like Tom Saunders who got drafted in last minute and looks good in training so it’s also about seeing how those guys compete.
“Today’s game will be an unknown quantity and therefore I just want us to play to our strengths and let the Jamaicans worry about what we have.”
Phil Johnson BARLA Great Britain Cougars Manager said,
“Up to know the Jamaicans have been very hospitality towards us but we need to get out of that frame when the guys walk on the pitch, we know very little about the Jamaicans. But like Daryl said we need to play to our strengths, we think we have selected the correct side to get the result we require.
“All the boys not playing today will get the chance on Wednesday to stake a claim for the test next Saturday. I’ve also been very impressed how all three counties have bonded especially with the travel and the heat that we’ve had to endure. Last night we took the boys to the Jamaica national football game to help take their minds off and relax before the big game.”
Tom Saunders on the bench for the BARLA Great Britain Cougars on his selection for the side was shocked,
“I was over the moon with my selection when I found out I had made the 23s Squad, although it was short notice. But I grasped the opportunity with both hands as I might never have this chance again.
“I feel privileged to represent my country through BARLA and cannot wait for the game today to put this training into practice. I also can’t thank enough Hunslet Old Boys for the funding of my trip at such short notice, and to all staff there.”
