BARLA aid Forget Me Not Trust
The Forget Me Not charity, which is for terminally ill children, will be the benefactor from the close alliance between the GMB Hull & District League and BARLA, when this coming Saturday 6th August, Haworth Park will host three quality games of rugby league.

It’s a high noon start with the under 8’s, Haworth Park v Hull All Blacks getting the ball rolling kicking off at 12 O’clock, followed by the new GMB Hull & District Open Age side, who will test themselves against a Lincolnshire select, kick off 12:45, before the main event, the BARLA Open Age v The Army, kick off 2:30.

It will be nice for the rugby league supporting family of Hull to see some of their top stars on the same side as opposed to against each other. And there is a strong element from Hull in the BARLA ranks with Tony Spence (Myton) who will be taking charge of the side, along with Denis Sunman (West Hull Physio), Trevor Penrose (Skirlaugh), who captained the side on their recent tour of Australia and will continue as skipper for the BARLA side.

Also in the squad, is newly crowned BARLA player of the year Carl Booth along with Mike Johnson, Stu Smith, Tom Radley, Carl Puckering and Ricky Hough has also been added to the squad. Mick Turner, the executive international manager, will present a shirt to the Hull & District after the game.

The Army, will by no means a pushover, over the years they have been very successful in various competitions and usually, draw providing, have a good run in the Challenge Cup. It will be nice to show our support to all these lads and lasses who are putting their lives on the line for their country.

Steve Clark, the Hull & District team manager, will be having one or two new faces in the side to face a Lincolnshire select, many of their players have turned out for various sides in the Summer Conference since its start.

The curtain raiser between the two under 8 teams will be worth the money to watch, don’t forget in a few years some of these youngsters could be playing for any of the above.

Entrance on the gate will be £3 for which you are getting three excellent games and at the same time helping a very worthwhile cause, the Forget Me Not Trust, who help and assist all the families of these terminally ill children.
