Steve Morton features in Community Cascade E-News
On the 28th November 2010 Steve Morton flew out to Dubai for eight days for the ruby tournament - ‘Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens’ as part of the British Amateur Rugby League Association – BARLA Bulldogs.

The evergreen Steve Morton has had an amazing twelve months, 41yr old Steve, was awarded the 2010 BARLA - International Veteran Player of the Year. As well as Queens opening try scorer in their first ever Ace Insurance (Europe) BARLA National Cup win.

Whilst the United Kingdom has seen snow and blizzards which have brought cities like Leeds to a standstill. Steve can look back and reflect on temperatures of 33/34 degrees as he prepared and played in Dubai.

His side reached the quarter finals of the International Veterans Competition before bowing out 26-5 to the Christine Noble Vets who went on to win the trophy for the fourth successive year.

Steve went over for a try to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead, it proved to be the only points the Vets conceded in their six games and their toughest match for many a year.

Steve finished top try scorer for the Bulldogs with four after crossing the line in his previous two games after they had drawn 0-0 in their opener.

Seeing what a great player Steve is, he was asked to play for the charity team The Wooden Spoonists while in Dubai.

Steve said, “I would like to thank BARLA for allowing me to play on the biggest stage in my career. What a great incentive to continue playing over the age of thirty five at a competitive level and gain selection for the Bulldogs. I can’t really say much about what Dubai was like it was Ruby all the way. I’d like to say a big Thank you to all who sponsored me”
