| THE THREE COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP 2009 LANCASHIRE v YORKSHIRE
POST MATCH QUOTES |
|
 |
Following the Three Counties Championship opening game which saw Yorkshire come from 12-10 down to win the match 22-12 both Head Coaches gave there thoughts on the game.
Lancashire Head Coach Neil Jukes
“I’m disappointed not to win the game I couldn’t knock the lad’s efforts. We were eight nil down at half time coming off with the wind and I thought that we were really going to be in for it. The lads dug deep went in front and we had a try disallowed right at the end. Pleasing it was a good effort and a good attitude all-round which is what we spoke about
“Today we were so close against like last year, they scored a try at the end tonight which I thought didn’t really reflect the game at the end but the effort was spot on, everything was what we had really worked hard on in training. Things we spoke about we put into place and the passion they showed playing for Lancashire.
“It was a big decision whether to start with Gary (Phillips) but Steve McDermott has been doing really well with Simmies (Halton Simms Cross) so I pecked him to steady us down and that’s what he did. We brought Gary on off the bench after they got tired for his go forward after twenty five minutes and we thought that was the perfect opportunity to get him on and when we did it worked.”
Yorkshire Head Coach Alf Hill
“A close game entering into the last minute but I thought we held the upper hand until we went twelve ten adrift, we fought back well and I think the lads were always confident and we played some very confident rugby.
“Lancashire came out with all guns blazing in the second half, we controlled them in the first half going into that strong wind and I think we probably relaxed a bit as we thought the wind would get us out of trouble in the second half but I don’t think we kicked enough to be honest. But Lee Gudor put that forty twenty in down the park and we kicked across and the winger dropped it there. Perhaps in those conditions again we will kick it more.
“We’re in the driving seat now, we’ve been there before we only lent the Championship out last year to Cumbria just to keep Charlo (Gary Charlton Cumbria Head Coach) smiling and I’m sure we’ll relish the game when Cumbria come here so we’ll have it back.”
