UNISON BARLA Great Britain Under 18's Victory in Australia
HENRY LAWSON, CAMBRIDGE PARK 16
BARLA GREAT BRITAIN UNDER 18s 40

The Unison BARLA Great Britain Under 18s Australian Tour side recorded a very impressive 40-16 victory against Henry Lawson, Cambridge Park on Tuesday evening.

The BARLA side were given a very physical test by a strong HLCP side but responded by producing some outstanding free flowing rugby that saw them score several scintillating tries.

HLCP opened the scoring in the sixth minute when a short ball from scrum half Reece Potter found second row Brett Gough who bounced off an attempted tackle to score. Hooker Andrew Davies added the conversion.

BARLA replied six minutes later when a good break by stand off John-Paul Brocklebank took them close to the HLCP line. A quick play the ball saw hooker Dean Gamble and scrum half Ryan Smith combine to find winger Matt King who scored an unconverted try in the right corner, and then on twenty minutes more fine work from Brocklebank created space for King to exploit and score under the posts to give Brocklebank a simple conversion.

BARLA stretched their lead on twenty five minutes when a great break by substitute Benn Fawcett split the HLCP defence and he found second row Tom Dawson who put loose forward Liam Mackay through a gap and his inside ball put R. Smith over. Brocklebank converted.

Two minutes before the break a run by substitute Mark Smith saw him held just short but a quick play the ball saw Gamble go on his own to score. Brocklebank goaled to give BARLA a commanding 22-6 half time lead.

Five minutes into the second half a long kick down field by HLCP’s Potter saw the ball bounce kindly into the arms of centre Joel Patullo who touched down at the side of the posts. Davies added the goal points, but BARLA hit back shortly afterwards when good work on the last tackle by centre Clayton Sutton saw him find Brocklebank who scored wide on the left.

BARLA increased their advantage when Brocklebank chipped over the defence and regathered before being hauled down, but a quick play the ball saw Sutton race fifty metres to score before HLCP capitalised on a BARLA handling error in their own twenty metre area as centre Daly Thompson swooped on the loose ball to race over.

BARLA made the game safe on the hour when a superb offload by second row Bradd Crellin found prop forward Johnny Young and he put the impressive Fawcett away on a fifty metre run to the line.

The scoring was completed five minutes from time when a break by centre Dane Manning split the HLCP defence and he found substitute Adam Fairhead in support to race over. M. Smith converted to round off a very good 40-16 victory.

The Man of the Match was awarded to BARLA substitute Benn Fawcett. He was very well supported by Dean Gamble, John-Paul Brocklebank, Bradd Crellin, Liam Mackay and Tom Dawson.

Best for HLCP were loose forward James Waterhouse, hooker Andrew Davies, full back Grant Leslie and stand off Mark Murphy.
